No matter what you are looking for to buy, or how much money you would like to spend, you are likely to be satisfied with your experience in Chetumal, whether you are a long time resident, a newcomer, or a tourist. Here are some examples of what is available.
Plaza Las Americas is an American style mall
constructed and opened in 2002. It has many stores, a food court, and a
cineplex with several first-run movies, many in English with Spanish subtitles.
The downtown area of Chetumal has many different stores
and shops, many of which are located on the main street of Heroes. There are
additional stores and specialty shops located nearby on side streets, as well
as hotels and restaurants.
Markets. Chetumal, because the weather is never very
cold, has many open-air markets where you can buy all types of articles as well
as food. There is a New Market and an Old Market often used to help designate
the location of a place. "It is near the New Market."
Warehouse shopping. Large wholesale stores found in
every city in the US have begun to spring up in Chetumal. For example, there
is a Sam's Club and an Office Depot. There is also a Bodega Aurrera, owned by
the American chain, Walmart, and a Walmart Superstore.
The Belize Free Zone is located about 7 miles (about
4.2 kilometers) south of Chetumal, in Belize, just across the Rio Hondo River.
Mexicans travel to the Zone regularly to buy goods and gasoline. There are also
two hotels and cansinos there providing gambling, nice restaurants, and floor
shows for their customers.
Other shopping. Chetumal has a store for almost any kind
of specialty item you could want. Among them are stores for restaurant, bar,
and hotel supplies, craft supplies, locksmiths, fresh roasted coffee, plastics
of all kinds, pet stores, sports and dance equipment stores, and hardware
stores, just to mention a few.
